Do you deal with performing under pressure in your work? Or are you facing challenges where you'd like to be coached? Read on this page more about how you can be coached by one of our sport psychologists.
Tough Minds helps you develop a sports mindset, break through limiting beliefs, and make goals manageable so you can make your own choices again and enjoy them. Training, developing, and strengthening your mindset isn't just for elite athletes. We believe in daring to grow to develop a resilient, flexible, and solution-oriented sports mindset – a tough mind – enabling you to maximise your potential and perform optimally at any given moment. A tough mind is for anyone who is ambitious and wants to grow but also faces challenges, obstacles, and fears and wants to overcome them. Whatever activity you choose, this sports mindset helps overcome various obstacles and guides you to focus on what's important to you under all circumstances. Want to know more about what we can do for you?
The sports mindset is what top athletes use to turn obstacles on their way to the top into opportunities for growth. During the ups and downs, they use various mental skills focusing on the process rather than the outcome. Techniques such as performing under pressure, focusing without distractions, accepting oneself and things beyond one's control, and creating commitment towards goals and things that matter to them. By training these mental skills, they primarily focus on their personal growth. This makes them flexible, resilient, and solution-oriented. They consciously choose their own path from a position of strength.
This applies not only to you as an individual but also to your team. Imagine being part of a team where everyone has this sports mindset, imagine the possibilities? Our experience with Olympic athletes, among others, taught us that this sports mindset is a critical requirement for sustainable top performance. A team can simply work very hard in the short term, deliver results, and sideline the individual. However, this is not a sustainable situation for the long term. Loss of motivation, burnout, absenteeism, and high staff turnover lurk closely with this approach. Instead, training the sports mindset makes you (and your team members) more resilient, healthier, more assertive (yes, possibly with all its consequences), more engaged, and thus sustainable. If you want to initiate a change in your company culture and achieve long-term goals, this mindset is crucial.
You can approach mental skills development with us in two ways: 1-on-1 coaching or through team training. Watch the video below about team training or contact us directly to discuss a suitable program tailored to your needs.

I am paying for the coaching myself. What reimbursement options are available?
Your employer often has a development budget: (Almost) every employer has a budget available for staff development. As an employee, you can claim this development budget and spend it on coaching, training, or education. Ask your employer if he/she is willing to invest in your growth or your sustainable employability.
My employer pays for the coaching, how does that work?
We can prepare a quote in advance for your employer to approve. After the start, we will then send the invoice directly to the employer. Know that if you are guided by us, your employer will not learn anything about the content without your explicit consent. See also the section on confidentiality in the FAQ.
I am a freelancer or small business owner.
Unfortunately, the costs are no longer tax deductible. However, it is still possible to offset the VAT.
Where is your location in the Haagse Sport Centrale?
Navigate to 5 Michealisstraat. When you enter the entrance of the Haagse Sport Centrale there, immediately go up the stairs to the second floor. Take a seat at the large table, and we'll come greet you up there.
How long does a trajectory last?
That varies enormously! Some are completely ready to go with just 2 appointments, while others prefer a year of guidance. The vast majority of professionals we see about 8 times for the first trajectory. After that, some occasionally come back to us if they have a question or an important decision to make.
Are the appointments face-to-face or digital?
Both are possible. Although face-to-face appointments are often preferred because we can be more hands-on. Digital is certainly also possible, we continuously seek balance in that regard.
Will what we discuss remain confidential?
Absolutely. What you discuss with us stays between us. We have professional confidentiality, and without your explicit permission to share information, we will never disclose anything about your guidance.
How do I know if I need to see a sports psychologist?
You should never feel obligated. But if you want to work on your mindset, we're here for you. You may be referred by your coach or physio and have no idea what you'll do with a sports psychologist. That's exactly what our intake is for: to clarify your question to us and determine together how we'll work on it. Essentially, this always means: a lot of ACTION and tailored to YOU.
Which sports psychologist should I choose?
A good match with your sports psychologist is often important for how much you will get out of it. Therefore, we always advise you to read our personal profiles on the website. You will naturally notice with whom you have the best connection. Some athletes prefer it if we are familiar with their sport, while others prefer someone who is completely outside of it. Choose what feels right for you. Can't decide? Then sign up via the contact form, and we will match you with one of us.
What is the difference between a mental coach and a sports psychologist?
Good question! One that doesn't have a very brief answer. It mainly comes down to qualifications, being registered in a quality register, and having a complaints procedure. All of our sports psychologists are registered as SPORTPSYCHOLOOG VSPN®. That is the only quality mark in the Netherlands and guarantees the quality of your guidance. Anyone can call themselves a mental coach, only a few dozen in the Netherlands can call themselves SPORTPSYCHOLOOG VSPN®. We work hard every year to maintain our quality, to continue developing ourselves, and to gain a lot of experience in sports to retain that quality mark.
I don't perform(or not at an elite level), can I also come to you?
Absolutely! We assist people in training their mindset, drawing from our knowledge of what athletes do to achieve peak performance. This mindset applies to many more things than just sports. And it's not just about performing like an athlete but also simply about being happy as a human being. If you feel like you could learn something from top athletes, or if you have a mindset that's too focused on results, Tough Minds is your place to be.
Can I refer people to you?
Yes, you certainly can. However, ensure that you include this person in the process. Explain to them the reason for referring them to us and gauge if they are open to it. Please be aware that everything we discuss with this person remains confidential. If any information needs to be shared, they will always need to provide explicit consent for it.
